What are News Feeds ?

News feeds are news stories that are automatically fed (which basically means delivered electronically) to the people who want to read them. News feeds like the bingo rss need to be subscribed to, but once a person has subscribed to a particular feed, all future news stories that are published by that same source will be sent to the subscriber. The main advantage to the subscriber is therefore the fact that they won’t have to exert any effort in finding future bingo news items manually.

RSS is a term that many people use synonymously with news feeds, though it is really an acronym for Really Simple Syndication. This is because online publishers can syndicate their content just as easily as readers can subscribe to that content.

If you were to take a look at an actual Bingo RSS feed page you would see what looks like raw HTML code, but that’s because those pages are meant to be scanned by computers, not people. The idea is that the Bingo RSS page tells the computer what the feed is about, what the most recent stories are called and where they can be found. The computer can then locate those stories and deliver them to the reader in a form that is much easier on the eye, and this is where News Readers come in.

News Readers

News Readers are software applications that subscribers use to retrieve and read the news feeds that they are interested in. If you use a modern web browser then you may find that you already have a news reader built-in, but you can use a stand-alone news reader if you prefer. If you want to be able to subscribe to feeds and read them as you surf the web then a browser-based reader may be all you need, but if you would prefer to read news feeds without launching your browser, a stand-alone application would be a better option. Stand-alone news readers also allow you to read news items even when you aren’t online.

There are dozens of different news readers available, so you should take a look at several before choosing one that provides all the features you are looking for. Try looking at well-known readers such as Firefox, Safari and Opera, as brand name readers can often be more reliable than those released by smaller independent software developers.

Subscribing to News feeds

When you have selected a news reader that you think you will be happy with, install it on your computer and launch it so that you can start subscribing to news feeds that interest you. How easy it is to subscribe depends on the reader you are using. Some make it as simple as clicking your mouse on an “ADD FEED” button when you are visiting a site that makes an RSS feed available. Others will require you to copy and paste the URL of the RSS feed itself, which takes a moment longer but isn’t a complicated matter. That done, your news items will be delivered to you as and when they are published so that you can read them at your convenience.
